Metro Atlanta’s warm weekend will continue on Sunday, though afternoon showers could put a damper on some outdoor plans.
The high is expected to reach 56 degrees in the city, several degrees warmer than average for late January, Channel 2 Action news meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
The morning should get off to a relatively nice start, but isolated showers are expected to move in after 3 p.m., according to the latest forecast.
“We’ll still have some dry time, at least to start the day,” Deon said. “You won’t need the umbrella early on, but maybe as you get out a little later into the evening hours. That’s where we’re starting to see those rain chances pick back up.”
The wet weather is expected to continue overnight and into the start of the workweek, she said. By Monday, the chance of rain jumps to 60% as temperatures increase to nearly 70 degrees across metro Atlanta.
“Next week, we’ll be off to a wet start,” Deon said. “So take advantage of this dry time while you have it around.”

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several overnight lane closures planned this weekend that could cause some backups on metro Atlanta’s interstates. Drivers should expect delays at the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange as road work continues there.
In Clayton County, drivers lane closures are planned in both directions of I-75 as crews repair guardrails between Ga. 331 and I-285, officials said. The repairs should be completed by 5 a.m. Monday. One right lane of I-75 will also be closed overnight in Cobb County for a bridge rehabilitation project over Bells Ferry Road.
