Prepare for slightly warmer temperatures Sunday afternoon to wrap up the weekend ahead of a rainy heatwave early in the days ahead.
Atlanta will be dry and sunny and can expect to see a high of 60 degrees Sunday, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.
Overnight lows heading into Sunday will again drop to the freezing point in most of metro Atlanta and as low as the 20s in some mountainous regions of North Georgia.
“Another cold night with temperatures down into the 20s and low 30s,” Deon said. “So everyone’s waking up to below freezing temperatures Sunday. But by the afternoon, we’ll make it up to about 60 degrees.”
Heading into next week, there’s a 70% chance for showers on Monday and a good chance the rain continues for a few days. But Atlanta should experience “springlike warmth” as the temperatures are expected to soar to the mid-70s by Tuesday and Wednesday, Deon said.

Motorists can expect traffic delays and lane closures on roads throughout the metro area as the weekend winds down.
In Cobb County, single lane closures will affect Ga. 360 eastbound/westbound. Crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation will continue resurfacing the roadway. This work is expected to end Sunday evening.
Two southbound lanes of Ga. 237 will be closed from Morosgo Drive to Alpine Road in Fulton County.
Also in Fulton County, Ga. 141 northbound will close one right lane along Peachtree Road from Brookwood Valley Circle to Peachtree Valley Road.
