SUNDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Cloudy morning expected as cold front moves in
Metro Atlanta residents may wake up to some isolated showers Sunday morning, though the rain isn’t expected to stick around for long.
A cold front is moving into North Georgia overnight, bringing clouds and the possibility of wet weather early in the day, according to the latest forecast.
With just a 20% chance of showers, the rain shouldn’t be very widespread, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. It should also be warmer than Saturday morning, which saw temperatures dip into the 30s and 40s in some parts of North Georgia.
“We’re going to get a few clouds rolling in, which should keep temperatures milder,” Deon said. “By Sunday afternoon, we’re back into the 60s and lower 70s.”
After an overnight low of 54 degrees in Atlanta, Sunday’s high is expected to reach 69 degrees in the city, making it a nice day to get outdoors. The sunshine should stick around through midweek, with temperatures in the low 60s and no rain forecast through at least Wednesday.
Neither the Atlanta Falcons, the Georgia Bulldogs or Georgia Tech have games scheduled this weekend. It’s the first time that’s happened during the football season since the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
While metro Atlanta drivers won’t have sports traffic to compete with, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several road projects planned that could cause delays this weekend.
In Clayton County, the entrance ramp to the westbound lanes of I-285 from I-75 North will be closed for roadwork this weekend, GDOT officials said. A detour is in place, but drivers on the southside are encouraged to give themselves a little extra time to reach their destinations.
Farther west, there are overnight closures planned on I-20 East as crews continue a bridge rehabilitation project in Douglas and Carroll Counties. Two right lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday.
