Dozens of drivers may have bought gas that was contaminated with water from a station in Fairburn.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the Georgia Department of Agriculture is investigating the Sun Petro station on Senoia Road for reportedly selling the watered-down gas.

The station has posted signs saying they are out of order and "unable to operate due to technical difficulties."

Water getting into a gas tank can damage the engine of a car. A mechanic told Channel 2 that people with water in their tank should shut their vehicle down and get it towed to a mechanic.

The owner of the gas station would be responsible for any damage incurred on the vehicles, state officials said.
