Some abusive doctors victimized hundreds

With abundant access to the vulnerable patients — children, people with physical and mental disabilities, immigrants, people under sedation — some sexually abusive doctors rank among the worst sexual offenders in the nation when it comes to numbers of victims.
One of the worst is Earl Bradley, a Delaware and Pennsylvania pediatrician who is believed to have drugged more than 1,000 children with lollipops before sexually assaulting them and videotaping his crimes. The youngest victims were months old. He is now serving 14 life terms plus 165 years without parole.
Other doctors, with anywhere from a dozen to hundreds of victims, didn’t get the public notoriety that might be expected.
Dr. Peter LaFuria, a gynecologist in Louisiana, took thousands of explicit photographs of his patients without their permission. In a plea deal, he admitted to 20 of the 269 counts on which he was indicted. He was sentenced to 23 years, with 15 years suspended.
Most of the patients at Dr. Jeffrey Joel Abrams’ San Diego clinic spoke little English. He was accused of sexually assaulting unconscious patients and taking more than 1,300 sexually explicit photos. In 2015 he pleaded guilty to 12 counts of sexual abuse, including eight counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person. He received a suspended sentence.
