A prank involving stuffing socks with rocks and sand isn’t funny to the Cobb County motorists whose cars have been hit. And some drivers worry someone could get hurt by the flying debris.

When something smashed into Allen Ashwege’s car over the weekend, he turned around thinking he’d hit an animal, he told Channel 2 Action News. Then, his car was hit again, he said.

Ashwege said he found a sand-filled sock embedded in his front grill, and when he went back to Kennesaw Due West Road, he found several other “sock bombs” along the road.

“When I saw the damage I thought we were lucky it didn’t hit the windshield or even the side window where my son was driving,” Ashwege told Channel 2.

The former cop said he put up some posters around the neighborhood, offering a reward to help catch those who did some costly damage to his wheels.

Another man told Channel 2 his windshield was hit Monday night as he drove down the same road. Murray Chalmers said the distraction caused by the objects hitting vehicles could distract drivers and lead to wrecks.

Cobb County police are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
