No serious injuries after hit-and-run involving school bus

Jan 16, 2013

No one was seriously injured during a hit-and-run wreck involving a school bus Wednesday afternoon in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

The bus containing 29 Douglass High School students was on Hightower Road when it was hit by a white pickup truck, according to Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police. The truck, which had a silver toolbox, then left the scene, Chafee said.

Several children reported complaints of neck and back pain following the crash, but none of the injuries were believed to be serious, Chafee said. Because of the number of children involved, the students were transported on the school bus to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding to be evaluated, he said.

There was no major damage to the bus, Chafee said.

Students were being reunited at the hospital with their parents, who were called shortly after the wreck, Stephen Alford, spokesman for Atlanta schools, told Channel 2 Action News.
