The calves were dead when they were found off the coast of Baja California but scientists hope they can learn from the remains.
The whales were about seven feet long, that’s half the size of normal gray whale newborns.
That leads researchers to believe the whales were not carried full term.

There have been cases of conjoined twins in other whale species, but not in the gray whale.
Io9 reports scientists aren’t sure what became of the mother but because the twins were vastly underdeveloped they theorize the she may have died during the birth.
Gray whales make one of the longest migrations on earth every year. The whales come to Baja California to breed and travel some 10,000 miles back to the Artic where they feed.
Grays are often seen off the west coast of the United States during that long trip south and back north.
