The sun will come out of hiding Saturday following a solid week of rain and thunderstorms.
That doesn’t mean the weekend will be bone-dry, but Atlanta residents should be able to finally spend some time outdoors.
To start the day Saturday, “I do expect a dry morning,” Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said. “Maybe some showers and storms develop in and around the metro area by noontime... but then we get a nice lull.”
With tropical air still blanketing the northern half of Georgia, the high is expected to be 87 degrees with intense humidity Saturday morning that decreases throughout the day.
“It’s looking pretty good toward the afternoon,” Burns said. “Go to the lake, do a little outdoor work, get the lawn mowed.... Pretty good, right?”
The sunny afternoon sets up potential evening storms, especially east of the metro area, Burns said. Later that evening, there could be further isolated storms closer to the core metro area.

Around midnight, though, the pattern of rain should break.
“That’s it,” Burns said. “That’s the pattern change! For Sunday, we’re looking great.”
The Sunday forecast shows little-to-no rain and hot temperatures that could hit 90.
The weekend traffic will not be exacerbated by any sporting events. The Atlanta Braves are in Miami to face the Marlins this weekend while the Atlanta Hawks’ next home playoff game will not take place until Monday. Atlanta United is in the midst of a break for international play.
On Atlanta’s surface streets, Edgewood Avenue will be closed Friday through Sunday between Jackson Street and Boulevard, a trend that will continue throughout the summer until mid-September, according to the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation.
In the northern metro area, expect daytime lane closures on Powder Springs Road in Cobb and Paulding counties as part of a widening project along Ga. 360. In Cobb and Fulton counties, watch out for lane closures on I-75 in both directions for bridge preservation work between Chastain Road and Barrett Parkway. Another widening project in North Fulton will require lane closures along Cumming Highway and South Main Street in Alpharetta.
In the southern metro area, there will be lane closures in Clayton County around the interchange between I-75 North and I-285. The Forrest Parkway entrance ramp to I-75 North will remain closed with a detour in place. In southern Fulton, there will be lane closures on Cascade Palmetto Parkway for a resurfacing project between Roosevelt Highway and Fulton Parkway.
