Storms brewing and heading toward Atlanta on Saturday could turn heavy at times.

Areas of patchy fog will develop in the morning hours as temperatures settle in the mid- to high 60s. A front approaching from the northwest will bring back the humidity and plenty of rain, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

The morning will be dry in metro Atlanta. Around 10 a.m., rain will have reached the northwest corner of the state. By about noon, the northern parts of metro Atlanta will welcome the rain. Atlanta will see isolated showers by about 2 p.m.

“As we heat up (in the early afternoon), getting toward highs near 80 degrees, the atmosphere becomes more unstable,” according to Nitz.

Thunderstorms will be most widespread by about 3 p.m. in Atlanta. As the day goes on, showers will once again become scattered and isolated. Some storms may become strong.

“Through the afternoon and continuing into the evening hours, there’s the potential for not just heavy rain and lightning, but also some strong thunderstorms,” Nitz said.

There is a Level 1 risk for isolated severe storms and damaging wind gusts for metro Atlanta. The only areas of the state not projected to face a severe weather risk Saturday is the northeast corner, Nitz added.

A few lingering showers will remain late into the evening.

Temperatures will be slightly below average at 80 degrees. The average high for this time of year is 82.

Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day, but scattered rain may be around. A few spotty showers will arise in the morning and early afternoon. By about 4 p.m., the rain is expected to clear.

“Not a rainy day Sunday, but some showers into the early afternoon,” Nitz said.

Isolated storms will return Monday and the high will be 7 degrees below average at 75 degrees. Lower temperatures will remain until at least the first half of the week.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be dry, and a partly cloudy sky will stick around for a bit longer.
