The chilly, windy conditions from Friday will carry over into the first leg of the weekend Saturday.

But warmer temps should be on the way in days to come.

Frost and freeze advisories that the National Weather Service issued Friday continued overnight into Saturday’s predawn hours.

Metro Atlanta woke up to morning lows in the 30s.

“Not quite as windy as yesterday, but still a mix of clouds and sunshine,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “Temperatures will be on the cool side to start the weekend.”

The afternoon high for Saturday should reach 55 degrees, a temperature more suited for mid-December, according to Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns.

There’s a 20% chance of light showers and a slight possibility for “snow showers” in the North Georgia mountains, Burns predicted Friday.

“We’ll have a few sprinkles around to start the day for your Saturday morning,” Monahan said. “By the afternoon, temperatures climbing through the 40s and into the low 50s by 1 o’clock. It’s going to be a cool afternoon.”

It’ll be a blustery day for art lovers who visit Piedmont Park for this weekend’s Atlanta Dogwood Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. through 9 p.m. Saturday.

The chilly temperatures continue into the night, Monahan said.

Bring a jacket if you plan on hitting Truist Park Saturday night to catch the third game of the Braves’ season-opening homestand against the Cincinnati Reds. First pitch is scheduled to be tossed at 7:20 p.m.

Don’t be dismayed by the day’s cool and cloudy conditions. The warmup begins Sunday when highs are expected to reach the 70s.
