Riverdale teen arrested after allegedly detonating homemade device
A 16-year-old Clayton County boy was arrested Wednesday night after police responded to a bomb threat at his home in Riverdale.
Clayton County police spokesman Ron Coloma said officers who responded to the house in the 8000 block of Cedar Bend Court about 11 p.m. Wednesday “learned the boy, who lives at the home, detonated a homemade explosive device before officers arrived.”
Nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution, and bomb-sniffing dogs were brought to the scene, Coloma said in a statement released late Thursday morning.
The teen was charged with possession/manufacture of a destructive device, reckless conduct and possessing explosive materials.
The boy, whose name was not released due to his age, was taken into custody and later released to his parents, Coloma said.
No one was injured, he said.
