With a few clicks of the mouse or keystrokes on mobile devices, Porsche customers will be able to purchase cars online.

A nationwide pilot project that enlists more than two dozen dealers is the first time consumers in the U.S. can complete the process of buying a car from a screen.

The online process is available for the purchase of new and pre-owned cars in stock at those Porsche dealerships.

Consumers can upload personal documents for ID verification, as well as car photos for trade-in valuation.

Once a customer completes the online process, they can visit the dealership to submit final signatures before driving away in their new Porsche.

"Physical and digital retail experiences have to work hand in hand, yet stay typically Porsche," said Detlev von Platen, member of the executive board for sales and marketing at Porsche AG. "Offering our customers an enhanced digital option for acquiring a Porsche makes this experience even more accessible and more convenient."

Today, 25 of the 191 Porsche dealers are taking part in the program. More dealers may participate, depending on the results of the pilot, officials said.

Porsche Cars North America is based in Atlanta.
