A 6-year-old student brought a BB gun to his Rockdale County elementary school Monday, according to police.

The boy put the unloaded gun into his backpack without his parents’ knowledge and took it to D.L. Sims Elementary in Conyers, Cpl. Michael Camp with the Rockdale Sheriff’s Office said. Another student saw the gun in the boy’s backpack and alerted the teacher, Camp said.

Counselors and administrators talked to the boy and determined that he had not been bullied, nor did he intend to use the gun, Camp said.

A complaint was filed with the Department of Juvenile Justice. The boy was released to his parents, Camp said.
