Authorities have released the name of a woman who was found dead in Lake Lanier early Friday morning.
The body of Michelle Dianne Baxter, 32, of Gainesville was found floating in the lake by fishermen, according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks.
Baxter was face down and in the northern portion of the lake on the Chattahoochee River arm, Wilbanks said. Investigators believe she lives in the area.
“The cause of death has not yet been determined, but there were no obvious signs of trauma and no reason at this point in the investigation to suspect foul play,” Wilbanks said in an emailed statement.
Witnesses reported seeing a woman swimming in the area Thursday night, Wilbanks said.
Members of the Hall County Dive Team removed the body, which was transported to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The death remains under investigation.
