A Florida woman had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the state’s legal limit Friday when she hit a man with her vehicle and then left the scene, authorities said.
Alicia Michel Belcher, 38, of Plant City, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash and aggravated battery, according to arrest records. She is being held without bond.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, initial tests showed Belcher had a blood alcohol level of 0.219, WFLA reported. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.
Deputies said Belcher was driving eastbound on I-4 when she got into an argument with her passenger, the television station reported. The victim exited the vehicle and began to cross the highway, WFLA reported.
"She crossed three lanes of traffic perpendicularly, then hit him, then took off from the scene," sheriff's spokeswoman Amanda Granit told the television station.
The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he is listed in serious condition, according to WFLA.
