Austin police on Tuesday arrested a man who they say was selling heroin at his East Austin apartment.

Daniel Melendrez, 38, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony, and is being held in Travis County Jail on $25,000 bail, records show.

Austin police on Friday obtained a search warrant for Melendrez’s apartment at 3706 Goodwin Ave. near Airport Boulevard and Springdale Road.

The warrant was executed Tuesday, and officers found about 3.5 grams of heroin, about $14,000, six guns and other drug paraphernalia, according to an affidavit.

Melendrez told offices that he didn’t use drugs but that he would buy an ounce of heroin and break it down into individual grams and half grams to sell, the affidavit said.

Melendrez has previous convictions for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance, records show.
