Officers responded Monday afternoon to a call about an alleged stolen car in the 2000 block of Metropolitan Parkway.

An Atlanta police officer fired his gun while chasing suspects in southwest Atlanta on Monday, police said.

Officers responded Monday afternoon to a call about an alleged stolen car in the 2000 block of Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta police spokesman Anthony Grant said. When they arrived, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the car did not stop immediately, according to Grant.

The driver and two other men in the car got out and tried to run away, Grant said. He added that two of the suspects appeared to be armed.

Police pursued the suspects, and one officer appeared to have fired his weapon but did not hit anyone, according to Grant.

The officers and a K-9 unit then surveyed the wood line and quickly located two suspects, Grant said. They were detained and two handguns were found on them, Grant said.

The third suspect has not been found. The investigation is ongoing.
