After an ice-filled week, the weekend appears to be filled with something very different: sunshine.
“A nice weekend is on the way,” said chief meteorologist Glenn Burns with Channel 2 Action News.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, with gusts up to 35 mph, for metro Atlanta until 5 p.m. Saturday, when temperatures will reach the middle 40s.
“It’s going to feel like a mid-January day,” Burns said.
But Sunday should be much warmer, with afternoon highs near 60 degrees, thanks to more sunshine. The weekend weather comes as a relief to the thousands of people left in the dark during the week due to power outages.
Days after the winter storm brought Atlanta and North Georgia to a halt, the roads have mostly thawed and traffic is mostly back on track. Some isolated roadways, such as Ronald Reagan Parkway in Gwinnett County, remained closed late Friday. The annual “Run the Reagan” race will take place Saturday as scheduled.
Among the downtown attractions this weekend, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus will have three shows on Saturday and Sunday (11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m.) at Philips Arena. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform at the Fox Theatre at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
