Pennsylvania woman accused of trying to hide 7 baggies of heroin by eating them

A Pennsylvania woman is accused of trying to eat seven baggies of heroin she was hiding from police, WPMT reported.

Tiffany Leigh Root, 29, of Ephrata, was charged with seven counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, the Lancaster Bureau of Police said in a news release.

According to the release, police stopped Root at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police determined that Root possessed controlled substances and took her into custody, the release said.

According to the release, "Due to the nature and location of some of the contraband," Root was taken to a hospital to have the items removed by medical personnel. Police said that while en route to the hospital, Root took the seven baggies of heroin she had concealed and tried the destroy the evidence by chewing and eating it.

Hospital staff members convinced Root to spit out the drugs, according to the release.
