In possibly the most adorable swearing-in ceremony in the past few weeks, the Georgia Gwinnett College Office of Public Safety recently expanded the campus' police force with K-9 Officer 'Buddy the Bomb Dog' along with the three new officers, bringing the campus total to 22 officers.
GGC President Stas Preczewski and Chief of Police Terrance Schneider led the formal ceremony. After Officers Ashley Still, Ryan Borders, Chris Wragg and K-9 Officer Buddy were sworn in, family members pinned GGC police badges on their uniforms.
Officer Ryan Borders joins the GGC Police force from Georgia Institute of Technology, where he most recently served as a sergeant.
Officer Ashley Still is a recent graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center where she was honored for her outstanding leadership and support throughout the training.
Officer Chris Wragg also a recent graduate of the program, joins his father and brother in becoming a Georgia Peace officer.
"Buddy, the Bomb Dog," is a huge asset to the force, according to Schneider. The two-year old black Labrador retriever has successfully completed rigorous training along with his handler, Officer Chandler Smith, a four-year veteran of the Georgia Gwinnett force.
"Having Buddy as a member of our force greatly enhances our ability to protect the GGC community as well as the surrounding community," said Schneider. "He is a member of a well-trained and responsive Public Safety team that is committed to the enhancement of the quality of life by providing a safe and secure environment for all college students, employees and guests."
Buddy joins Ginger, the college's first K-9 officer. Ginger is trained to locate illegal substances.
"We have seen remarkable growth at Georgia Gwinnett over the last 10 years and ensuring the safety of campus community is one of our most important responsibilities," said Preczewski to the new officers. "When others are turning away from trouble, you are heading toward it. I thank you for your service and commitment to the job that you do."
