A student was stabbed during a fight at Jonesboro High School on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The student, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-critical injuries, Clayton County fire Battalion Chief Laura Richardson told AJC.com.

The fight involved four students before the school day started, Clayton County Public Schools spokeswoman Jada Dawkins said in a statement.

“As a precaution,” the school was placed on a soft lockdown, Dawkins said.

In video obtained by Channel 2 Action News, the students can be seen fighting in two groups behind the school.

The victim’s mother, Natasha Jones, told the news station that she dropped everything at work when she got the call about her son’s injuries.

“I’m crying, nervous,” said Jones, who lives in Florida. “I was at work when I got that call ... I want answers.”

Jones, who said her son lives with a relative in Clayton County, told Channel 2 that she has learned he is doing well and should make a full recovery.

School officials have not said whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
