The Atlanta Police Department arrested one of its own supervisors for allegedly driving drunk while off-duty, the department said Friday.

Lt. Maurice Dodd, a 12-year veteran of the department, was arrested Monday and charged with DUI, expired registration, open container violation, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane, according to Officer John Chafee. Dodd, a Zone 3 supervisor for the department, was arrested in Zone 2, in the area of Piedmont and Pharr roads, Chafee said.

“The Atlanta Police Department takes this type of allegation against one of its own very seriously,” Chafee said in an emailed statement. “It is especially troubling when it is a supervisor; someone we entrust to train others.”

Lt. Dodd has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending a disciplinary hearing next week before Chief George Turner, Chafee said. Dodd could face dismissal under increased penalties put in place by Turner in 2012.
