The New Orleans Police Department has made arrests in the fatal shooting of a well-known Elvis Presley tribute artist, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lori Steele confirmed.
Jason Baglio died from a gunshot wound, Steele said.
Baglio, who performed under the name “Jayson Alfano,” launched his career in Tangipahoa Parish before becoming notable throughout the Southeast for his Elvis performances.
Livingston deputies were dispatched to the 25000 block of Homestead Drive in Denham Springs, where authorities said shooting suspect Trace Pigott fled the scene.
“This all unfolded around 3:30 this morning. Baglio was shot multiple times and died due to his injuries,” Sheriff Jason Ard told WVUE. “Through evidence obtained at the scene, LPSO detectives would name 28-year-old Trace Pigott as the shooter.”
Pigott was tracked to the New Orleans area, where he was apprehended by the New Orleans Police Department.
Tommy Ray, Pigott’s father, was also present when Baglio was killed and fled the scene with his son, Ard said. He was taken into custody Sunday morning.
“At this time, it’s unclear what led to the shooting.” Ard said. “We have placed a HOLD on Pigott. He will eventually be transported back to Livingston Parish & processed through our Livingston Parish Detention Center on a charge of second-degree murder.”
Baglio was adored by many fans from around the country, and their tributes continue to pour in on their social media pages.
