New Jersey children received a personal escort Tuesday to shop for Christmas presents, as police in Jersey City held their fifth annual "Shop with a Cop" promotion Tuesday, WABC reported.
More than 60 children were given a $100 mall gift card as they prowled the Newport Centre Mall looking for deals, the television station reported.
"Look at the smile. This is why we do it. Can't put a price on that," Jersey City police Officer Frankie Marto told WABC.
Hundreds of children have participated in the program since it began in 2014. The police coordinate with East District Public Schools to choose the students who will shop.
"This is a beautiful thing," one mother told WABC. "Whoever donates and allows the children to have this experience to walk with the officers, speak to them and ask them questions, it's a beautiful blessing."
