A Secret Santa in southern New Jersey spread Christmas cheer for dozens of families Friday, picking up the tab for more than 60 layaway bills totaling more than $10,000 at a Toys R Us store.

A man who identified himself as "Charlie K." went to a Toys R Us in Cherry Hills to do some shopping for his son, KYW reported. He decided to pay for the 62 layaway orders -- which totaled $10,780 -- and bought an additional $2,000 worth of items to donate to Toys for Tots,

"We love the heartwarming acts of one secret Santa who visited Toys"R" Us Cherry Hill this morning -- Charlie K. paid off more than 62 Layaway orders totaling approximately $10,780," a Toys R Us spokeswoman confirmed to KYW in an email.

Charlie K. told KYW that he was “trying to fulfill some Christmas wishes for people.” He said it was the first time he had paid for layaway items and he wanted to help out less fortunate families in the area.

“I can only do it because of the community that provided me the luxury to do it," he said. “I love this community, and I'm trying to provide back for it.”

Stephanie Dawson found out that the seven presents she put on layaway for her grandchildren -- totaling $200 -- were paid for by Charlie K.

“I want to say thank you very much and I appreciate it and thank God for you,” she said.

Jessica Jey showed up Friday planning to settle her layaway bill for a big box of toys, but was stunned when she was told they had been paid for.

“They come over and tell me someone actually paid the layaway,” Jey told KYW. “It’s definitely an early Christmas and I want to say thank you to the gentleman that came in and donated. It’s like the best feeling, thank you.”

Charlie K. also asked everyone in the store to pick out three toys for him to buy and donate to Toys for Tots, KYW reported.

“The Marines and Toys for Tots are one of the best organizations,” Charlie said. “I don’t want to forget them.”
