The Columbus mother of a 1-year-old life-flighted to Atlanta with serious head injuries two years ago pleaded guilty Monday to charges, including aggravated battery, for her role in the child's abuse, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported.

In October 2012, medics found Deseree Dionne Williamson’s son, unconscious. The boy, whose skull was “cracked like an egg,” was taken to The Medical Center where doctors decided to fly him to a Scottish Rite hospital in Atlanta, according to the Ledger-Enquirer. A medical examination of Williamson’s daughter determined she had an untreated clavicle fracture.

Further investigation found the children showed additional signs of abuse and Williamson, 28, and her boyfriend Devonte Qwendarius Tyner, 22, were arrested.

The children - now 2 and 4 years old - are both in foster care.

Williamson entered a guilty plea Monday to three counts of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of aggravated battery stemming from a 2012 arrest for her failure to protect her children, according to the Ledger-Enquirer.

Assistant District Attorney Letitia Sikes, the prosecutor on the case, told the paper, parents who know their children are being abused but don’t take steps to help them can be charged.

Williamson was sentenced to 20 years with nine to serve. Charges are still pending against Tyner.
