Monday is starting off dry in metro Atlanta, but scattered showers are possible sometime after lunch.
While the rain shouldn’t be too widespread, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan suggests packing an umbrella just in case. Those heading outdoors today can expect a pretty even mix of clouds and sunshine today — about six hours of each, he said.
“It’s a warm start to the day. It’s a humid start, but it’s dry,” Monahan said. "There’s no rain this morning.”
The afternoon high is expected to reach 87 degrees in the city, and there is about a 40% chance of showers later on.
Tropical Storm Sally is gathering momentum in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to become a hurricane sometime later today, Monahan said. North Georgia will likely see some clouds and rains from the storm, but not until late Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.

Between now and Tuesday evening, rainfall totals will be pretty low across North Georgia, but that could change by the second half of the week. The chance of rain jumps to 80% on Thursday while the afternoon high is expected to drop to just 76 degrees.
“Certainly plan on some heavier rain as the week goes on,” Monahan said.
The wet weather should clear out just in time for the weekend as fall-like temperatures start to move in, he said. Sunday morning is expected to be cool in metro Atlanta, with lows of about 50 degrees for the second half of the weekend.
An overturned tractor-trailer is blocking the I-20 East ramp to the southbound lanes of the Downtown Connector about 6 a.m. and causing some delays in the area, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Langford and Freedom parkways are good alternates.
In addition, the exit ramp to Spring Street from the northbound lanes of the Connector remains closed after a Midtown parking deck collapsed two days in a row.
Drivers looking to avoid delays caused by the ramp closure are urged to get off one exit earlier at Peachtree/Pine Street, the Traffic Center said.
