The most basic policing can net big busts, and breaking seemingly small laws can lead to huge trouble.
An Athens-area fugitive learned this the hard way Thursday when he was arrested in DeKalb County after jaywalking, authorities said Friday.
Archie Byrd III was stopped by a police officer who saw him crossing Wesley Chapel Road without using a designated crosswalk, DeKalb County Police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said.
Byrd didn’t size up to the physical description listed on the ID he gave the officer he encountered, Fore said.
After further investigation, the officer determined Byrd’s true identity and discovered that Byrd was wanted in Clarke County for human trafficking, authorities said.
Byrd had been profiled on the national TV show, “America’s Most Wanted,” police said.
He was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of giving false information to police, and was taken to the DeKalb County jail, according to jail records.
The human trafficking charge, a felony, awaits him in Clarke County, authorities said.
