A “power parachute” and its operator got stuck in a tree about 80 feet off the ground Thursday evening in Forsyth County, a fire department official said.

But fortunately for the man, he wasn’t injured. And he wasn’t stuck in the tree long, Lt. Debbie Lindstrom with the Forsyth County fire department told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It took about 45 minutes from the time a call was placed to 911 until the man, whose name was not released, was safely on the ground, Lindstrom said.

“We brought our ladder truck, and firemen secured him with a harness and rope,” Lindstrom said.

The man had previously operated the same vehicle, which is similar to a hang glider but with a seat. The wind was believed to have played a factor Thursday, Lindstrom said.

The incident happened on Shady Grove Road, about two miles from the site of a small plane crash that killed two Cumming men Sept. 13. Don Hershall Hall, 45, and his passenger, David Jason Schorr, 40, both died when the experimental aircraft they were riding in crashed off Shady Grove near Lanier Drive.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
