A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for plotting the sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl.

Once out of prison, David Alan Wolf , 63, of Rock Hill, S.C. will be required to register as a sex offender, remain under lifetime supervised release and pay a $5,000 fine, prosecutors said Tuesday.

“After this defendant used the Internet to arrange for a sexual encounter with a vulnerable, eight-year-old girl, he then traveled to Atlanta in an effort to commit this repugnant act,” U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said. “Thankfully, there was no eight-year-old, and law enforcement arrested him.”

According to prosecutors, an investigator with the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office was working undercover in August 2012, posing as a 34-year-old female with an 8-year-old daughter.

The investigator was contacted online by Wolf who said he was interesting in having sex with the 8-year-old, prosecutors said. On Aug. 28, 2012, Wolf traveled from South Carolina to Georgia to meet the fictitious mother and daughter and was immediately arrested.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said his office “will continue to be vigilant in our attempt to apprehend those who prey on our children.”
