The incident occurred on I-95 in Deerfield Beach, authorities told the newspaper.

“It appears to be a suicide, but we can’t make that determination yet,” said Lt. Alvaro Feola, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man, who has not been identified, jumped in front of a Nissan Rogue driven by Jami Lercher, 39, as the Miami resident was traveling south at 11:40 p.m., the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Lercher’s vehicle hit the man and spun out of control, traveling over several lanes until it hit a concrete median and stopped in the road’s emergency shoulder, the newspaper reported.

Lercher suffered minor injuries. The pedestrian died at the scene, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
