A Mableton man was arrested Tuesday and charged with hit-and-run in connection with the May death of a pedestrian on a Cobb County interstate ramp.

Cobb police spokesman Michael Bowman said an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers Atlanta led investigators to a 2004 Saturn Vue with damage “consistent with a high speed pedestrian collision.”

Investigators arrested John Hendrix Riddle, 34, and charged him with felony hit-and-run and driving while license is suspended.

Harry Maurent, 30, of Austell, died in a May 18 accident on the ramp from I-75 northbound to I-285 westbound.

Investigators said Maurent was westbound on I-285 when he ran out of gas and his car came a stop in the gore area at the I-75 entrance ramp.

Maurent was trying to cross the ramp when he was hit by what investigators said was possibly a Saturn sport utility vehicle that didn’t’ stop.

The victim was then hit by three other vehicles, but the drivers of those vehicles remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, Bowman said.
