A Waffle House in DeKalb County failed its health inspection this week due to a dirty floor and fruit flies in the kitchen.

The Waffle House at 2963 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker received a score of 67 Thursday, according to the DeKalb County Board of Health.

An inspector noted a “severe leak” in the washing sink and advised the location to repair it. The joint was also urged to “deep clean the floor” throughout the kitchen.

There was a heavy presence of fruit flies in the kitchen, according to the inspection report. The inspector recommended that the Waffle House “seek pest control immediately.”

The inspector also noticed an employee handling food while chewing gum, and another worker wearing a bracelet and watch. Some cold food was also not holding at the proper temperatures.

In a statement, Waffle House said the company’s “operations management and our corporate director of food safety are working with the restaurant team to correct all the issues.

“In addition, management will conduct additional coaching about our protocols to our employees. Our goal is to offer a positive experience to all of our guests, and we are sorry to disappoint our customers in this case.”

The late-night spot will have a chance to improve on its score during a follow-up inspection. The eatery received a score of 90 on Dec. 27, 2018, and a 78 earlier last December.
