WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Rain covers Northside as wrecks clog Atlanta during evening commute

Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns has your early Thursday morning weather forecast.

Even though the light rain has moved north of Atlanta, traffic inside the Perimeter is jammed Thursday during the evening commute.

Multiple lanes of the Perimeter's inner loop are blocked at Bolton Road after a rollover crash in Fulton County, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Delays are quickly growing.

In Cobb County, the I-75 North Express Lanes are being affected by a crash near North Marietta Parkway, according to the Traffic Center.

Pretty much everywhere else is also slow, but that’s mostly due to slick roads from earlier rain and the increased volume during the evening commute, the Traffic Center reported.

Metro Atlanta residents woke up to low temperatures for a second straight morning on Thursday. Instead of the teens and 20s, North Georgia started in the 20s and 30s.

The rain kept Atlanta from hitting its projected high of 47 degrees, and the city is hovering in the low 40s, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. The city is at 43 degrees at 3 p.m.

“We are still stuck in this chilly weather pattern for the next couple of days,” he said.

Showers are expected to linger overnight and most of the day on Friday.

The good news, Monahan said, is that this weekend’s forecast looks “a whole lot better.”

Saturday and Sunday should be sunny, with afternoon temperatures of nearly 60 degrees, he said.
