A 55-year-old Thomasville construction worker is getting ready to build a new life after winning $50 million in the Georgia Lottery.

Zippy Vonier matched all of winning numbers in Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing. He’s going with the cash option and will get $38,197,097 (before taxes, of course).

He picked up the lucky ticket at Susie Q’s #0001, at 13091 U.S. 319 N. in Thomasville. He picked up the big, ceremonial check Friday.

Vonier shared the secret of his success in picking the numbers — 5-12-26-42-49 and Mega Ball 24.

“We got the numbers from a random Quik Pik years ago, and we just kept playing the same numbers,” he said in the news release.

Vonier and his wife, Betty Jo, have two children, three grandchildren and a lot to think about.

“We’re not going to do much right now,” he said. “Just sit back and weigh our options.”
