That Braves-inspired Omni hotel yards from SunTrust Park is now open

This is a view of a model room of the Omni Hotel in October when The Atlanta Journal-Constitution took a tour of the hotel at The Battery Atlanta. The hotel, which overlooks the Braves' SunTrust Park, is now open.

Nearly 3 years after the Atlanta Braves announced there'd be an Omni outside the team's new SunTrust Park, the hotel has opened.

The hotel stands 16 floors tall with 264 guest rooms and 28 suites less than a home run's distance away from SunTrust Park and the stadium's accompanying mixed-use development, The Battery.

The project was a 50-50 partnership between the team and the hotel chain — and that shows when it comes to the fan packages available. The average starting nightly rate is $239, a spokeswoman said.

The hotel’s 582 Waterside Lounge & Bar will serve small bites at the fifth-floor pool. The number comes from the lounge being 582 feet away from home plate, according to the hotel.

“We are thrilled to join an evolving neighborhood and are thankful for the warm welcome we’ve received from the local community and the Atlanta Braves,” said Ramon Reyes, general manager at the Omni.

The rooms have small baseball details like wood-burnt room numbers, carpet patterned like mowed turf and red pinstripe comforters.

Laura McKoy, Omni's creative director and vice president of interior design, said during a tour in October that she used the Braves as inspiration when designing the hotel but didn't want to go overboard with baseball paraphernalia.

The Braves let Omni designers explore the team’s archives, which is where they they found Hank Aaron’s scouting report. The hotel made a collage of images of scouting reports from Aaron and other Braves greats, some of which hang above the toilets.

No matter how much baseball memorabilia is in the hotel, guests would be just as happy if room service could deliver a Braves win.
