An 19-year-old who tried to put a hit on his arresting officer has pleaded guilty.

Jonathan Mejia of Marietta pleaded guilty in DeKalb County Superior Court this week to attempted murder of a witness and cocaine trafficking. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

During a May 2009 traffic stop, Mejia was arrested after the officer found five kilos of cocaine in the car, police said.

While in jail, Mejia asked his cellmate to recommend a hit man, prosecutors said. The cellmate told authorities.

A GBI agent then posed as a hit man and took undercover video of Mejia asking him to kill the officer, prosecutors said. They agreed on a $20,000 fee, prosecutors said.

Mejia later wrote an apology to the officer.
