The suspect in a Gwinnett man's stabbing outside a local night club was apprehended this week in Alabama, police said Wednesday.
Viet Bach Dam, 20, was arrested Monday during a traffic stop in Mobile and is awaiting extradition to Gwinnett, Cpl. Michele Pihera said. No further details were immediately available about the arrest.
Dam is accused of stabbing a man 17 times during a Oct. 9 fight outside "Paradise Karaoke" on Pleasant Hill Road.
The victim survived.
Police have previously said Dam and the victim knew each other "due to a previous relationship connection with a woman," but what, exactly, triggered the stabbing remains unclear.
"At some point, they walked out of the back door of the establishment and began fighting in the parking lot," police said in a news release earlier this week. "During the fight, the victim was stabbed multiple times. He did not realize that he had been stabbed until the two separated."
Warrants issued for Dam, a Chamblee resident, have charged him with aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
