SUNDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Second half of weekend should be mild, dry

With no rain in sight and a high of nearly 60 degrees, Sunday should be a good day to get outside.

Saturday started off dreary and cool, but North Georgia warmed up around lunchtime as the clouds parted and the sun shined over Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

That pleasant weather is expected to linger through the rest of the weekend as the rain holds off.

“The clouds that were with us have moved out and we have cleared up nicely all around the area,” she said. “The key thing is that we are going to stay dry.”

That all changes at the beginning of the workweek, however, as storms roll into the area Monday night.

“By Monday evening, rain will start to make its way into the northwest corner of the state,” Deon said. “We are going to be dealing with some heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.”

Drivers heading out Sunday afternoon may want to give themselves a little extra time as Georgia Department of Transportation crews complete several road projects.

In Clayton County, one lane of the ramp from I-285 West to I-75 South will remain closed for a bridge rehabilitation project, according to GDOT. All lanes will reopen Monday at 5 a.m.

Drivers should also expect delays near State Farm Arena as LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Lakers come to town to take on the Atlanta Hawks.

Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
