Predictions of possible severe thunderstorms drenched metro Atlanta areas in heavy showers Monday, but failed to bring heavy lightning and hail that was feared.

The storms passed over the city and its suburbs quickly and no severe damage, though it did chase people off area lakes and bring an end to many Memorial Day activities.

You can see where the storms are headed and what Tuesday weather will be like on The Atlanta Journal-Constitution weather page.

The storms began popping up about 2:30 p.m. in scattered spots. It cooled the air into the low 70s, but the humidity remained high. Remaining but less powerful storms could persist through the evening.

Lightning was believed to have a sparked a fire in Cobb County at a home currently for sale near Marietta. No injuries were reported in the Heath Hollow Lane blaze.

Areas north of the metro area and the North Georgia mountains have a risk for isolated strong storms as the storms  continue to pass through toward the northeast.

Before moving into Georgia, storms moving through Alabama brought dangerous lightning to Montgomery, according to reports.

Scattered storms are again possible Tuesday, when there is a 40 percent chance of rain. The potential for rain continues through the week.
