Following a second public hearing on June 22, the Snellville City Council voted to deny changes to zoning and a conditional use permit that would have allowed for the construction and operation of an automotive repair shop at 2001 E. Main St.

The applicant, Valbona (Tony) Aziri, was seeking to make repairs to the existing structure on the 1.1-acre lot which his wife would use to operate a flower shop. Behind the existing structure and towards the middle of the property the applicant hoped to construct a 3,200-square-foot building with one drive-thru service bay for auto service and repair.

Kim Maddox, whose property is directly behind the lot in question, expressed concerns about future noise and light pollution, as well as flooding onto her lot from the removal of trees and possible contaminants from chemicals used in auto repair.

Despite Planning Commission approval with numerous conditions, the council moved to deny the request.
