Smyrna officials announce annual open burning restrictions are in effect now through at least Sept. 30, according to the Smyrna Fire Marshal’s Office.

Until then, the city of Smyrna will continue to allow the following types of fires that do not require a permit and are allowed all year:

  • Grilling or cooking using charcoal, clean wood, propane or natural gas.
  • Burning of a recreational fire.
  • Burning in a chiminea, portable outdoor fireplace, fire bowl or similar device.

On about Oct. 1, depending upon the spread of COVID-19, once again residents will be able to apply for a residential burn permit.

Burn permits will be available free of charge and may be obtained by visiting SmyrnaCity.BurnPermits.com.
