A solid line of rain and storms that stretched from Buffalo to Mexico could put a damper on metro Atlanta high school football games tonight, and will likely lead to a wet Saturday.

The rain is developing along and ahead of a cold front that forecasters said should reach north Georgia by early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service predicted that rain totals from the system would be in the 1 to 2 inch range, with some isolated higher amounts possible.

Weather Service forecasters said they were not expecting any widespread flood problems as the rainfall would "be spread out over a long duration."

There's a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. on Friday, increasing to 60 percent overnight into Saturday. A 50 percent chance of rain is forecast for Saturday night, decreasing to 30 percent on Sunday.

Weekend highs will be in the low to mid-70s, with lows in the upper 50s.

Rain could also dampen Georgia and Georgia Tech in their out-of-town games this weekend. There's a 30 percent chance of rain in Knoxville, Tenn.,  around midday Saturday when the Bulldogs play Tennessee.

Saturday night in Tallahassee, Fla., where Georgia Tech plays FSU, there's a 40 percent chance of showers.
