A man shot in the hand by an Atlanta police officer has been charged with aggravated assault, officials said.
Officers responded to a call at 7:36 a.m. Sunday of an armed man in the area of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in southwest Atlanta, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said.
Police said the armed man, 37-year-old Todd Wright, was ordered to stop. When he didn’t, officers fired, Bender said. One of the bullets hit Wright, who ran until officers caught up to him at a residence about two blocks away, she said.
Wright was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was released Monday and is now in the Fulton County jail, the GBI said.
The GBI is investigating, which is standard in officer-involved shootings.
