Sooners Helping Rickey Dixon

Perry Ivie of Roswell started this page to raise money for Rickey Dixon, a 1987 All-American defensive back for University of Oklahoma football team and Jim Thorpe award winner who is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. In 32 months, 125 people raised more than $13,000 for Dixon, which surpassed the $10,000 goal. Donations are still being accepted.

#ShineOnElla

A fundraising team from Roswell started this page a month ago for Ella Griggs, a 13-year-old who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke at lacrosse practice in March. She was in a medically induced coma for two weeks, but survived the stroke and is now stable, the page says. Griggs has begun the rehab process, but her "road to recovery will be long and the cost of her car for the foreseeable future will be enormous." A goal of $200,000 has been set, and in a month 269 people have raised more than $35,000.

Road to the Olympics

Floyd Schofield of Alpharetta is trying to raise money so he can compete in boxing events around the country, in hopes of qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympic in Tokyo. He started his campaign on April 29 and as of Monday had raised $150 of his $3,000 goal.

Sammaiah Needs Your Help Now

In six months, more than 5,000 people raised more than $218,000 for Sammaiah Elabotaram. He is a native of India and came to work in Atlanta. On Nov. 7, 2017, he was "nearly killed" when he was struck by a car as he was walking across the street. According to the GoFundMe page started by Marisa Meisters of Milton, he had no medical insurance and needed several surgeries.

The latest update on the page says that Elabotaram has returned home to India. He had stiches from his skull repair surgery removed in May. The latest donation was made on May 24.

Replace Darth Vader and His Minion

The donations for this page are closed, but the GoFundMe folks and Star Wars fans really showed up for this one. It was started by Jake Barnes of Roswell on behalf of Bobby Shivley, whose car was broken into and had his Darth Vader costume stolen out of it. Kathleen Campbell's Stormtrooper outfit was also stolen, as were several props used for charity work that the 501st Legion does.

In 17 months, 142 people raised $6,805 of the $7,000 goal to replace the costumes. The 501st Legion is a volunteer group that promotes Star Wars, facilitates the use of costumes and contributes to fundraising and charity work.
