A DeKalb County grand jury brought additional charges Thursday against a man allegedly involved in a church parking lot shootout with police as they pursued him for the death of an 18-month-old child.

Nicholas Clarence Wade, 22, was indicted on six counts related to the Feb. 5 shooting at New Birth Missionary Church in Lithonia.

Authorities have said a DeKalb County deputy shot Wade after he allegedly pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the deputy. Wade was shot three times, once in the leg, once in the face and once in the neck.

Two days before the shooting, Wade had called 911 to report that his girlfriend’s son, Keon Belk, wasn’t breathing.

The boy was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived, according to a police report. The toddler later died and had a cracked liver and fractured skull, according to police.

Wade faces charges including malice murder, cruelty to children, aggravated assault, possession of an illegal weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
