Clayton County police said a minor who was sexually assaulted Thursday in Lovejoy was able to provide a detailed description of her assailant, and authorities are seeking the public's help apprehending him.

The afternoon assault occurred in the area of Rose Commons Drive, according to police spokesman Lt. Chris Windley. The young girl said she was walking through a neighborhood when a muscular black man with a handgun forced her to a wood line, where he sexually assaulted the child.

The girl said the man, about 6 feet tall and in his mid to late 20s, then ran into another nearby neighborhood.

The child said the man had a dark complexion, close haircut and 2- to 3-inch tattoo with a name or some other word on his left inner arm. He was wearing a bright orange Nike T-shirt, black basketball shorts to the knee, red plaid underwear and black-and-white basketball shoes, possibly "knock-off Jordans."

"We are currently awaiting forensic results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations," Windley said in a statement.
