If you live in Milton, and if there is a chance of a tornado rolling through, you’ll know about it.
The city in north Fulton County has 10 sirens stationed throughout, designed to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
Initially, Milton thought it only needed 10 sirens, but a gap in coverage has been identified and the city will build it’s 11th and final tornado siren this summer.

The siren will be stationed at 14795 Wood Road, a wooded area near Birmingham Falls Elementary School. Construction of the black 40-foot pole is expected to begin in July.
“There are siren systems in Cherokee County, Alpharetta all along our southern border, and in Forsyth County, so we are surrounded by sirens that would also support our system’s reach should an incident occur,” the city said in an email.
The location for the 11th siren was based on access to power, avoidance of underground utilities, topography, property availability and which spot would best balance the city’s coverage.
Before the siren is fully functional, it must be tested. Milton will send an email to residents affected by the siren before it sounds.
Since 1950, Fulton County has experienced 33 tornadoes.
