Forsyth engineering department can ticket

The Forsyth County Commission moved last week to give the county engineering department the power to serve citations for violations of county drainage, soil erosion and flood control ordinances. County Attorney Ken Jarrard said because that power has not been articulated in county regulations, the county code enforcement department has had to issue citations for the engineering department. He said it also leaves the county in a weak position if the case goes to magistrate court. The commission voted 5-0 to give citation authority to the engineering department. Jeffry Scott

Fayette workers get day off for their health

Fayette County Commissioners agreed Thursday to give workers their birthdays off if they promise to get regular health check-ups.

The unanimous vote came after the board agreed to raise employee health insurance premiums from $309 to $380 monthly. Human Resources Director

County administrator Jack Krakeel supported the request, telling the board that having educated workers is “in the best interest to control health costs.”

It will cost the county about $180 a day for each worker who takes advantage of the day off. Kathy Jefcoats for the AJC
